In honor of the Christmas season, I ‘d like to share a folksy hymn-like song that I wrote a few years ago. It was inspired by the William Blake poem “The Lamb.” Musically, its simple, only four chords. Vocally, its simple as well – little to no ornamentation, just melody. The heart of the song are the lyrics that hopefully paint a picture, telling a familiar story in a straightforward, yet poetic way. This song was recorded today pre-coffee, so I’m about to fuel up on a cup of dark roasted brewed coffee from one of my favorite coffee spots. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Little Lamb (lyrics)
He was born a little lamb inside a manger
Where he lay his little head down to rest
And the night that he was born
Brought the angels to sing a song, saying
Worthy is the lamb (son of God)
Worthy is the lamb
He became a little lamb for our sin
When he lay his little head on a cross
And the night that he died
Brought the angels to sing a song, saying
Worthy is the lamb (that was slain for us)
Worthy is the lamb
And John was in the spirit on the lord’s day
When he heard a trumpet sound and saw the great white throne
And he, saw a familiar sight
He that became a little lamb was at the right hand of God
Where he lay his little head in a crown of gold
And the day he was glorified
Brought the angels to sing a song, saying
Worthy is the lamb (which was and is to come)
Worthy is the lamb.
